Bed bugs don’t transmit diseases but they become so annoying when they bite you. When they attack you at night, you find it difficult to sleep soundly because you feel itchy. Even if your home is the cleanest, you can still find bed bugs because they feed on blood and not dirt.

Neonicotinoids refer to a class of systemic agricultural insecticides that chemically resemble nicotine. These work by acting on the nervous system’s nicotinic receptors. This causes the nerves to continually fire until the bugs die. The insects may become resistant to other type of pesticides for bed bugs but not to neonicotinoids.

Pyrethrins and pyrethroids

Pyrethrins are among the most commonly used insecticides to control bugs. In particular, a pyrethrin is a botanical insecticide made from chrysanthemums. On the other hand, pyrethroids are manufactured chemicals that resemble pyrethrins.

Both pyrethrins and pyrethroids are lethal and can effectively kill bed bugs. These compounds have the strength to flush the bugs out of their hide outs. If used for a long time, the insects may become resistant to these pesticides for bed bugs.

Other type of pesticides for bed bugs you may consider are pyrroles and insect growth regulators. Pyrroles are pro-insecticides that form new chemical inside the bed bug’s system. The chemical will then eventually disrupt the functions of the cells until the bed bug dies. Insect growth regulators act like insect growth hormones. They work by stopping the insect to develop or to force them to rapidly develop.
